About Purgatory

Est. 2017

Purgatory first began in Brisbane, Australia in 2017. As a contemporary fashion project, we aim to incorporate the themes and stories of Purgatory into fashion and street culture, reinventing old myths and legends in a fresh modern context.

With the help of many local creatives and  collaborators, Purgatory has since been featured on GQ Australia, Vanity Fair, Wired Magazine and shown at Brisbane Fashion RunwayPurgatory has been sold worldwide and is now based in Melbourne, Australia.

Our logo reflects Purgatory as the waiting room for heaven, created by god for sinners to expiate their sins. Those in Purgatory are required to learn 'The Virtue Of Love' before leaving to heaven. It is often related to eternal suffering, with those inside sometimes waiting for eternity.  The logo in turn, is eternal - revolving in a never ending loop. The gatekeeper of Purgatory is known as Moloch, and has spiralling goat-like horns. This is reflected in the nature of the logo. This logo is a modern, graphic interpretation of Purgatory.

Sustainability Commitments

Purgatory is committed to have a low environmental impact in all avenues of its business.

We use FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certified, soy ink and acid free NoIssue stickers and tissue paper in our packaging. We pack your orders in home compostable, zero waste The Better Packaging Co. shipping bags. And we use Sendle, a 100% carbon neutral and certified B Corporation delivery service to get your products to you (remote locations and Express Services by Australia Post).

We manufacture our products in small order quantities, this means our cost of production may be higher than many fashion boutiques.

We are constantly working on and updating fittings of our garments to evolve with comfort and style. We create all the patterns and measurements ourselves so please do not be alarmed if your hoodie from a few seasons ago is a different cut from a current one! We hope to always improve as we grow.

We also package each of your orders by hand, we prioritise your orders 100% and aim to get them to you as soon as possible - though during busy seasons after new drops or sales your order may be slightly delayed. Please be understanding or leave us a note upon checkout if your order is urgent!

We believe that fast fashion does not have to cost the earth and should still be affordable.

We encourage you to resell or donate your unwanted Purgatory items.

As always, thank you so much for supporting small businesses - U are making our dreams come true !!!!!!!
